Job description: Professional Blogger for big corporation / Shadow CEO

After attending a few seminars and events that discuss social media and corporate blogging my mind has been turning over many thoughts about ‘emergent media’ (in Jim Macnamara’s words www.jimmacnamara.com) and the opportunities it presents. One of the main points that has manifested in my mind is the issue of the corporate blogger – who blogs about/on behalf of a company/brand and what issues does this present? Some problems that have arisen for corporations re blogging is misinformation and the ramifications of blogging incorrect information, information being revealed non-intentionally (such as in throw away comments), being misinformed about the legalities/commons in the blogosphere and other unforseen troubles and challenges.

I started to think about CEOs and execs getting behind the keyboard and blogging so the information comes straight from the source and highest authority/expertise (yes, I know these don’t always go hand in hand but technically, the boss man or lady is the person who would possibly be considered the pinnacle of knowledge … hence landing them at the top). However, blogging is a huge commitment. One which top people may not have time to commit to so is there room for a Professional Blogger in the workplace? Someone who is a kind of shadow CEO – knows everything the CEO knows but who is not seen, only heard in the blogosphere? I could go on for pages about all the thoughts buzzing around in my head about this but I would prefer to hear about other people’s thoughts on this.

Is there a career for a Professional Blogger?
